How to Make a Career Out of Professional Web Development

There are many people making a very good living with an Internet based career. One such career is that of professional web development specialist. Basically, a web developer designs, builds, and often promotes and maintains web sites for their clients. One of the best things about being a developer is the amount of freedom and flexibility you can enjoy.
For example, you can choose whether you want to work for an employer or for yourself. There are, of course, different benefits to each. Working for an employer means you'll get a steady paycheck and quite possibly various benefits as well. Then again, working for yourself gives you the ability to work from home, when you want, as much as you want. Of course, there are some drawbacks, too. When you work for yourself, you have to find your own clients, pay your own taxes and take care of your own insurance costs.
The good news is, skilled web developers are usually always in demand. New sites are popping up daily, and someone is building them! Sure, some people build their sites themselves, but many do choose to hire a professional developer to ensure their site is the best it can be. The first thing you'll need to do before looking for work is create a portfolio. A portfolio for a web developer exists online, of course, and shows potential clients the work you've done in the past. If you're brand new to the business, you can design some sample sites until you obtain your first few clients.
Proper training and education is also important if you want to be successful. If you'll be seeking a job with a firm or company, you should probably obtain a degree or diploma from a formal education facility. However, if you'll be working for yourself, a college education is a bit less crucial. What truly matters in the freelance development world is results. You need to show potential clients what you've done, and what you can do.
Professional web development can be a very lucrative business, especially if you know how to market yourself. There are lots of sites where job seekers and freelance professionals can post their resumes, portfolios, and advertise their services. And don't forget about advertising locally -- you just might find some clients in your area looking for a good web developer!
