It is the in thing to have your very own web site these days. If you're ready to create your first web site, there are several ways you can go. You could hire a professional designer to create the site for you. However, if you're on a budget, you may want to save the expense and do it yourself. Here are some web site design tips to help you get started.

First and foremost, you need a plan. With paper and pen, sketch out what you want your site to look like. When starting out, it's best to keep things simple. How your site should be arranged will depend on what kind of site it is as well as your personal preferences. It should be easy for visitors to your web site to navigate the pages, and every page should contain a link to your home page. Some basic information that most people include on a web site include copyright information at the very bottom of the page as well as a way to contact the site owner. The rest of your content depends on what your site is about, of course.

When first starting out, it's helpful to know a little about HTML. This can be achieved with a little reading up on the subject. HTML is a basic code that's pretty simple to use once you get the hang of it. However, designing a page strictly with code can be very difficult, especially for a beginner. That's why it's advisable to use a WYSIWYG web design program. WYSIWYG stands for What You See is What You Get, and it means that you can easily build a site using simple drag and drop and an easy to use text editor. Microsoft Front Page is one example of this type of software, although there are lots of other titles that work in basically the same way. Some of them are even freeware, which means they are free of charge to download and use.

Many web site design programs even come complete with templates to make building a site even easier. Often the template can be customized to suit your individual needs and gives you a simple structure with which to start building your site. Designing a web site doesn't have to be difficult. Start small, take advantage of helpful software and you'll have your site up and running before you know it!
